Moira Holbrook is an artist from Columbus, Ohio. She holds a BFA in Glass from The Ohio State University, 2018. She has received scholarships from the Corning Museum of Glass, Pittsburgh Glass Center, and Penland School of Craft allowing her to further study glass with a focus on cold working and kiln formed glass. After graduating from college she traveled working all over the country ultimately selling in Corning, NY where she currently works at The Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass as a Studio Coordinator. Her work focuses on using the processes of adding or subtracting glass as a metaphor for how a person exists through life. This manifests through the process of engraving and coldworking to talk about loss and irreparable change and using kiln-formed glass components to reflect the additive nature of collection over time.
“Body language is such a large part of my life. I often find communicating my feelings to be impossible, and much of my work is an exploration in expressing emotions through imagery. Our emotions are expressed in different ways throughout our body (the hunch of your shoulders can say so much about how you’re feeling). Throughout my work I connect the emotional nature of the mind to the physical aspects of the body and explore how those connections can be related to other aspects of life.”
